The finance program will introduce students to varied facets of corporate finance, international finance, investments and different financial institutions. Since all classes are taught by full-time faculty, students will be exposed to a high rigor of instruction but in a smaller class size that allows for more individualized interaction between student and faculty. The finance program is designed to equip students with analytical and theoretical tools that have real-world application and that can be integrated with related fields including statistics, economics and mathematics. Students also have opportunities to broaden their business education by minoring in well-recognized areas including accounting, management information systems, economics and actuarial science.
The accounting program at SRU will provide you with the knowledge and skills to become a successful professional accountant. Through a major in accounting, students will be exposed to the general business and accounting knowledge necessary for them to succeed as professional accountants. Accounting majors will also acquire the communication, technical and interpersonal skills necessary to successfully resolve complex problems in unstructured settings. Highly motivated students are also able to participate in our Accounting BSBA 4+1 Masters of Accountancy program, earning both degrees in only five years.
Marketing involves more than just selling products-it’s about finding ways to bring companies and customers together. The Marketing program at SRU will teach you how customer perceptions evolve and how companies can impact and influence them. Students learn how psychology, economics, and statistics can be used to understand buying patterns and develop successful marketing strategies. You’ll also gain practical experience applying these concepts on both a local and global level.
When you study economics at SRU, you are not just looking at numbers and figures. You will learn about how trade disputes, global warming and government regulation affects our economy, our world and our lives. You will gain valuable insight into how different events, from new policy to emerging technologies, influence different markets for goods and services. You will also learn how markets determine output, employment and prices, which is important knowledge you can put to work with a career in business or government. As a student in the economics program, you will learn to do following: think clearly about complex economic issues; understand how different economies function; learn how to use logical thinking in decision-making and problem-solving; and conduct data analysis. These are valuable skills regardless of your chosen career path.
A major in Finance, Accounting, Marketing and Economics prepares you for a professional and rewarding career.
As part of Slippery Rock University’s School of Business, the Finance, Accounting, Marketing and Economics Department at SRU is not just looking at numbers and figures, we emphasizes learning through research and practical application as students prepare for professional certifications and/or careers in government and private industries.
